Anchin launches MWBE Recognition Award

Anchin, Block, & Anchin LLP, a leading accounting and advisory firm to the architecture, engineering, and construction sectors, and New York Construction Magazine, in cooperation with the New York Building Congress, will honor MWBEs at McGraw-Hill offices, 1221 Avenue of the Americas, on April 21, 2010.

Designed to highlight minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs), “Building the Future” will honor the fastest growing MWBEs in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries.  Firms demonstrating outstanding public service will also be recognized.  Michael Garner, Chief Diversity Officer of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, will deliver the keynote address.

“We are delighted to launch this new award program for such an important sector of the industry,” said Phillip Ross, co-chair of Anchin’s Construction Services Group. “We are particularly delighted to partner with McGraw-Hill’s New York Construction Magazine and the New York Building Congress. This event further demonstrates our commitment to serving all sectors of the industry.”

This event will mark the second construction event hosted each year by Anchin. The firm also hosts the annual State of the Construction Industry event, which drew 200 people to this year’s Sept. 30 event. The event features top executives from the area’s largest architecture, engineering and construction firms in a lively panel discussion moderated by Richard Anderson, president of the New York Building Congress.

Eligibility Requirements, “Building the Future”

Firms will compete in two different revenue categories: those with annual revenues less than $10 million, and those with annual revenues greater than $10 million, in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009.  For the “Fastest Growing MWBE” awards, one general contractor/construction manager, one subcontractor, one supplier, one architecture firm, and one engineering firm will each be recognized within their respective revenue categories, for a total of ten awards.

In addition, one award will also be given for each revenue category for outstanding public service.  Competing firms must be certified as an MWBE by a relevant government agency.

The call for entry is available at www.anchin.com, which can be completed and submitted on-line. If additional supporting materials are necessary, please submit via mail to Anchin, Block and Anchin, LLP, MWBE Recognition Award, 1375 Broadway, 18th floor, New York, NY 10018. Deadline for submission is January 31, 2010.
