CFO (Design Firm) - New York, NYadd

Salary: 225K+

A high-growth, internationally-renown design firm is looking for an experienced and results-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As the CFO, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company. This role is expected to last for a duration of 6-months, with the possibility of an extended duration.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Planning:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the executive team for financial decision-making.
  • Share weekly financial dashboard with Founder & CEO.
  • Implement tracking system to monitor progress in each studio.
  • Continually identify potential efficiencies.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and provide regular financial forecasts.
  • Monitor and analyze variances and take corrective actions as needed.

Cash Flow Management

  • Manage and optimize cash flow to ensure liquidity and support ongoing operations.
  • Oversee billing, collections and vendor payments.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, reports & analyses for internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Provide meaningful financial insights to support business operations and growth initiatives.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls and risk management practices.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Establish best-in-class people management and development practices and systems.
  • Supervise recruiting, directly for senior leadership and indirectly for more junior hires; oversee on-boarding and training process for all positions.
  • Ensure all policies and practices are legally compliant.
  • Maintain an Employee Handbook covering firm history, values, standards, processes and employee FAQ including benefits, etc.

Acquisitions

  • Support due diligence processes and financial integration efforts for potential acquisitions or partnerships.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a CFO.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to solicit input and build team consensus; ability to communicate expectations, provide guidance and review performance or masters level degree in business, accounting, information systems, or finance.
  • Experience in the interior design or related industry is a plus.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Create and implement an executive dashboard for timely reporting to the CEO & Founder;
  • Ensure accurate time tracking, expense tracking, efficient, accurate, and industry standard accounting, and project management across the organization;
  • Manage the budget to profitability;
  • Develop and deliver the annual operating budget for 2024 and beyond;
  • Improve financial reporting and information sharing across the organization;
  • Increase the net income of the business;
  • Develop, implement, direct, and ensure a fair comprehensive performance review process;
  • Develop and implement the compensation strategy to incentivize performance;
  • Maintain a comprehensive Employee Manual to mitigate risk and provide employees with a clear understanding of the terms of employment.
  • Develop and implement a tracking system to monitor progress of strategic initiatives, and budgets across each department and each design studio;
  • Perform an audit of each department to evaluate and identify potential efficiencies;
  • Develop onboarding, and offboarding policies and practices and ensure they are met;
  • Develop implement and ensure an internal and external communications system to effectively communicate across the organization;
  • Ensure policies and procedures are legally compliant and all policies and procedures are executed across the organization.

Controller (Consumer Products - Wholesale) - Westchester, NYadd

Location: Westchester, NY
Salary: 140K + Bonus
Controller

Wholesale consumer products company based in Westchester County, NY seeks a Controller, reporting directly to the CFO. The successful candidate will be a finance professional with a minimum of 8 – 10 years of combined management/leadership accounting experience preferably in a wholesale consumer goods environment.  You must thrive in a fast-paced work environment and have the ability to multitask.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the accounting function, which includes general ledger maintenance, accurate financial recordkeeping, cash and account reconciliations, financial statement reporting, balance sheet analysis, working capital management, forecasting and analysis
  • Manage the Accounting team, including the supervision of day-to-day activities and setting of policies and procedures
  • Perform and supervise the monthly financial close process and ensure monthly financial statements and analysis are prepared and presented in a timely and accurate manner
  • Review daily banking requirements and perform banking activities and cash management functions
  • Ensure that company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies, practices, and GAAP
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts by gathering, analyzing, and consolidating financial data
  • Provide technical accounting, GAAP, and potentially tax guidance and support
  • Responsible for completion of tax reporting including sales tax and use filings
  • Prepare special reports by collecting and interpreting financial data
  • Maintain internal controls and safeguarding receipts of revenue and payments of costs and expenditures
  • Assist CFO in validating, designing, and recommending computer/system enhancements and reporting to ensure ongoing business requirements and management directives and needs are met
  • Assist the CFO in managing banking, customer, vendor and risk management relationships

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
  • Masters degree is a plus
  • CPA is a strong plus / preferred
  • Prior public accounting experience is a plus

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in an accounting leadership role, managing direct reports and preferably within the wholesale consumer goods industry
  • Prior experience serving on a leadership team for a privately-held company or family-owned business is a plus
  • Experience with ERP information systems and reporting (NetSuite is a strong plus)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting and analysis
  • Strategic thinker and problem-solver able to take initiative, plan, organize and supervise effectively
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Able to identify and manage business requirements, establish expectations, and meet deadlines
  • Experience in analyzing business performance and developing and presenting financial analysis
