We especially would like to thank our keynotes, Tom Foley, P.E., Commissioner of the NYC Department of Design and Construction and Steven Plate, Chief of Major Capital Projects at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The keynotes addressed key industry topics, including updates on major infrastructure projects like the Gateway Tunnel and Port Authority Bus Terminal, the importance of community engagement in project design, and sustainability initiatives such as the East Side Coastal Resiliency project. Foley emphasized the significance of listening to community feedback, while Plate highlighted the critical role of engaging and mentoring young talent to address workforce shortages.

Plate underscored the importance of encouraging and engaging young people to get involved with the sector, especially with industry labor shortages. “Young people have a lot to offer – they’re transformational, and everyone has a role to play – a contribution to make. We really need that energy — find out what motivates people and guide them through it. You have to lean in, everyone has something to offer,” Plate said.

And when asked about his outlook on the future, Foley closed out with, “In 2040, we’ll see a resilient and vibrant city that is successfully answering the challenges of the day.”

We would also like to extend a thank you to our esteemed moderator, Carlo Scissura, President and CEO, New York Building Congress.

Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!
